Pebret Beach, located within the municipal boundaries of Peñíscola, together with the neighboring Russo Beach, forms a unique coastal enclave within the Serra d’Irta Natural Park. Both beaches, which lie side by side, are the only beaches in this protected natural area that are entirely composed of fine sand.
Pebret Beach has an approximate length of 280 meters and a surface area of 5,600 m² of fine sand, making it one of the largest bathing areas in the park. During the summer months, it usually experiences high occupancy levels, especially on weekends, due to its easy access and the quality of its natural surroundings.
Next to Pebret and Russo beaches stands the former Customs Guards barracks, a historic building that until the mid-20th century served surveillance and control functions over the movement of goods along this stretch of coast.
From an environmental perspective, Pebret stands out for its valuable system of dune ridges, a fragile ecosystem where vegetation density gradually increases with distance from the shoreline. In the dunes closest to the beach and in the inland mobile dunes, plant species of great interest can be observed, such as the sea daffodil and sea spurge, which are perfectly adapted to sandy soils, salinity, low rainfall, and constant wind exposure.
The dune vegetation also supports a large number of animal species, many of them endemic, including certain beetles and snails. These dunes also provide shelter and nesting areas for birds of high ecological value, notably the collared pratincole (Glareola pratincola) and the Kentish plover (Charadrius alexandrinus), species that are becoming increasingly scarce in this region.
Pebret Beach offers basic services such as litter bins, a parking area, picnic facilities, signage, as well as police and cleaning services. All of this is integrated within a protected environment where visitors are encouraged to enjoy the landscape while respecting and caring for the natural surroundings.
