Free Parking in Peñíscola
With the aim of improving mobility and making parking easier for both residents and visitors, the Urban Planning, Governance and Local Police departments, together with the Municipal Works and Services Brigade, have adapted several plots of land as free parking areas in Peñíscola.
The municipality currently offers around 2,900 free parking spaces distributed across the town centre, residential areas and tourist zones. These include two parking areas on Teruel Street with capacity for approximately 350 vehicles; the parking area next to the municipal cemetery, with around 300 spaces; the El Puntarró parking area on Pigmalión Avenue, which provides approximately 250 spaces; and the large parking area located next to the sports complex, with capacity for around 500 vehicles.
The creation of these parking areas has been made possible through agreements reached between the Town Council and private landowners, allowing the land to be adapted and made accessible for use as free public parking.
In addition, the Town Council continues to work on creating new parking areas. Planned projects include several plots located on Proyecto N-19 Street, near La Volta, as well as the expansion of the existing parking area in La Caleta, in the Peñismar area. These initiatives could add around 500 new parking spaces before the start of the summer season.
Since 2026, Peñíscola has also benefited from two additional large free parking areas. The first is located on the site of the former Bellavista Campsite, in the Las Atalayas area, and has capacity for approximately 1,000 vehicles. It is an unpaved and unsupervised parking area.
The second is located on the old Peñíscola road, near the Peñismar area. This new park-and-ride facility occupies more than 21,000 square metres in the La Cardona area and provides access both from Playa Norte and from the Peñíscola–Benicarló road.
The project includes more than 500 parking spaces for cars, as well as dedicated areas for coaches, a bus stop and a space for non-motorised vehicle rentals. The aim is to reduce traffic congestion in the town centre and promote more sustainable mobility. In addition, the installation of ten charging points for electric vehicles is planned.
