ZT Hotels strengthens its commitment to international senior tourism
April 30, 2026 - 11:04
The ZT Hotel & Spa Peñíscola Plaza Suites is preparing to become one of the leading benchmark accommodations in the upcoming international tourism operation that will bring more than 11,000 visitors from Austria to Peñíscola during the spring seasons of 2027 and 2028.
This initiative by the tour operator Iristour and ZT Hotels, in collaboration with the Peñíscola City Council, represents a significant boost for the local tourism sector and consolidates Peñíscola as a preferred destination for the European market outside the high season.
From ZT Hotels, the hotel chain to which ZT Hotel & Spa Peñíscola Plaza Suites belongs, they highly value this operation, which will help stimulate hotel activity during traditionally quieter months.
“We are facing a great opportunity to continue positioning Peñíscola as a quality, accessible destination adapted to the needs of the European senior traveler,” state the hotel management.
Meanwhile, Javier Gallego, CEO of ZT Hotels, emphasizes that “operations like these help reduce seasonality in the destination and provide job stability across the sector.”
Service adaptation and personalized experience
Due to this large influx of visitors, the hotel is working on adapting its services to offer a fully personalized experience. Planned improvements include:
• Strengthening multilingual assistance, especially in German.
• Increasing activities tailored to senior guests within the existing entertainment program.
• Adapting the gastronomic offering to international clients while maintaining local essence.
Commitment to quality and the destination
The ZT Hotel & Spa Peñíscola Plaza Suites, one of the largest hotel complexes in the area—with more than 600 rooms and capacity for over 1,200 guests—has already participated in previous European senior tourism operations, reinforcing its positioning in this strategic segment.
In fact, Peñíscola was already the setting for a similar operation more than a decade ago, when the destination attracted over 24,000 Austrian tourists between 2011 and 2012 under the Senioren Reisen social holiday program, an initiative that demonstrated the destination’s ability to attract visitors during mid and low seasons.
International projection of Peñíscola
The new arrival of Austrian tourists strengthens Peñíscola’s international projection and consolidates its positioning as a competitive destination in the European market. For establishments like the ZT Hotel & Spa Peñíscola Plaza Suites, it also represents an opportunity to build loyalty among this customer profile and expand their presence in international markets.
“We want these visitors not only to enjoy their stay but also to become ambassadors of the destination in their home countries,” the hotel states.
In this regard, ZT Hotels continues to work actively with the tour operator Iristour to consolidate and expand the arrival of Central European tourists, with the aim of opening and strengthening Austrian and German markets through new charter operations in the coming years.
With this new operation, the municipality once again positions itself on the map of international senior tourism, reviving a line of work that has already proven successful and now returns with renewed strength.
