Peñíscola will fill its sky with light and color to switch on its spectacular Christmas lighting.
November 24, 2025 - 15:11
The Peñíscola City Council has announced the date for the official switching-on of the Christmas lights, an event that each year aims to strengthen its position as one of the destination’s main winter attractions and continue drawing visitors. According to the Councillor for Tourism and Festivities, Ramón Simó, the ceremony will take place on November 28.
The opening day will begin at eight in the evening in the Plaça de Bous, at the northern entrance to the citadel. There, a show featuring 150 drones will light up the Peñíscola sky to launch La Llum del Nadal with an aerial choreography of lights.
After this visual display, attendees will be able to walk through the streets and squares of the old town to discover this year’s lighting design. As in the previous edition, much of the Renaissance walls will be part of the illuminated route. “Peñíscola’s characteristic silhouette will be framed by Christmas lights,” Simó highlighted, noting that the most spectacular point will be Santa María Square, where Ferrero Rocher installed its striking lighting.
The City Council expects the illumination to remain on display until the first week of January, offering nearly 40 days to enjoy the city and help boost its economic activity.
Christmas Market
The light switching-on will coincide with the opening of the eagerly awaited Christmas Market, located in the heart of the walled citadel and open until December 12. Its Nordic-inspired stalls will offer decorations, traditional sweets, and a variety of gift items for the upcoming festivities.
In addition to the lighting and commercial offerings, both Plaça de Bous and Santa María Square will feature carefully designed decorations. The Christmas program will be completed with traditional music and various activities for all ages.
On December 19, 20, and 21, a Christmas-themed video mapping show is planned. And to bid farewell to the year, the town will host a Medieval Market from December 27 to January 1.
