Peñíscola’s cuisine delighted palates this past weekend during its first gastronomic fair
October 27, 2025 - 15:10
The Tourism Department of the Peñíscola City Council organized last Saturday a day dedicated to local gastronomy, featuring tapas tastings, show cookings, and children’s cooking workshops. Chefs from the restaurants Caffé del Mar, Fifty Five Burger Café, Mareva Blue, El Mercat, Nacra Brunch & Drunch, Porta d'Irta, and Roca Mar were the main protagonists of this culinary event, which took place from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
For just four euros per tapa, attendees enjoyed a selection of dishes such as cuttlefish rice with bluefin tuna belly, mini fifty-five burgers, cheese sticks with tomato jam, slow-cooked lamb tacos, pork cracklings with fig mayonnaise and pickled onion, cheesecake with white chocolate and croissant base, olleta in Peñíscola style, warm squid with mango emulsion, burrata salad with pink tomato, and seafood stew.
“With more than 2,000 tapas served in just a few hours and a large turnout, we’re launching this project with the goal of continuity and growth. Holding an event of this kind in the second half of October helps keep the destination active beyond the high season and provides a new high-quality reason to draw attention and visitors to Peñíscola,” explained the Councillor for Tourism, Ramón Simó, who also thanked the participating restaurateurs for their dedication and professionalism.
Children also had their own space during the event, with free workshops where they prepared simple recipes and decorated kitchen utensils.
In the afternoon, chefs Camelia Mihai, Xavi Marqués, and Bali Constantin Tudose gave live cooking demonstrations, sharing techniques, tips, and some of their best recipes with the audience gathered at Plaza Santa María —the main venue of the event and the final stop of the guided tours through the city’s famous film locations.
“We wanted to host this gastronomic showcase in an emblematic setting of undeniable heritage value and beauty, where major productions such as Game of Thrones have been filmed, and where you can always enjoy a truly cinematic experience,” added Belén Miguel, Technical Director of the Tourism Department, noting that the event received financial support from the Generalitat Valenciana.
