The Institut Valencià de Cultura, the Provincial Council of Castellón and Peñíscola Town Council have announced the celebration of the traditional fireworks and music show that will bring the 31st edition of the International Festival of Early and Baroque Music of Peñíscola to a spectacular close. The show will take place on the evening of Friday, October 9, coinciding with the celebration of the Day of the Valencian Community.

The show, originally scheduled for midnight on August 2 on Peñíscola's North Beach, was postponed as a precautionary measure and as a gesture of respect for the situation caused by the forest fires that were still active in several parts of the province of Castellón.

Now, the fireworks and music show, produced by Pirotecnia Tomàs, from Benicarló, will return to meet the public and become the closing event of a particularly outstanding edition of the festival, held from July 24 to August 2 at Papa Luna Castle and the Peñíscola Conference Centre.

Organised by the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities through the Institut Valencià de Cultura, with the collaboration of the Provincial Council of Castellón and Peñíscola Town Council, this year's festival featured an expanded programme including nine major concerts, as well as a range of complementary activities.

A very special fireworks and music show

The music of great masters of the Baroque and Early Music will take centre stage in a spectacular show combining works by Claudio Monteverdi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Handel and Antonio Vivaldi with the spectacular aerial and aquatic fireworks of Pirotecnia Tomàs.

The event will also feature sound production by JR Sistems and will take place against the stunning backdrop of Peñíscola's seafront, with Papa Luna Castle providing a unique setting. The show will begin at 11:59 p.m.

The three organising institutions have given this year's fireworks and music show a special significance, paying tribute to firefighters, security forces and civilian personnel who worked throughout the summer to combat the forest fires that affected the Valencian Community.

The choice of October 9, a particularly significant date for the people of Valencia, will therefore provide an opportunity to bring back one of the most eagerly awaited events in Peñíscola's cultural and festive calendar and to celebrate the Day of the Valencian Community from the City in the Sea.
