The Justice of the Peace Court

The Peñíscola Justice of the Peace Court is a fundamental institution for the administration of justice at local level, offering a close and accessible service to citizens. Its main function is to deal with matters of lesser complexity that do not require the intervention of a regular court, thus contributing to a faster and more efficient resolution of certain judicial procedures.

Its responsibilities include carrying out judicial notifications, handling low-value civil proceedings, holding conciliation hearings and managing the Civil Registry at municipal level, such as registrations, certificates and other administrative procedures related to people’s civil status.

In addition, the Justice of the Peace Court plays an important role as a point of support and guidance for residents, facilitating access to justice and strengthening the closeness between the Administration and the local population.
